AirShip shortlisted for ‘Made in the South East Awards’

‘Made in the South East Awards’

Insider’s annual ‘Made in the South East Awards’ has become renowned in the manufacturing sector highlighting the high flyers for innovation, engineering and technology.

We are delighted with our shortlist for the ‘Manufacturing Innovation Award’ as it highlights the work and pioneering thinking that went into our AirShip range. AirShip is unique in its class, a super lightweight protective case that offers a significant weight saving against size; originally designed to meet the demands of Military and Defence customers.

Closed-cell foam material

Honeycomb PP and rigid closed-cell foam provide a featherweight block. This provides secure protection at the significantly reduced weight (as low as 20kg/m3) and is suitable for container sizes up to 1000 litre, whilst maintaining rigidity and torsional integrity.

This gives a 50% weight saving over traditional plastic injection moulded cases and flight cases and is easily customisable, with minimised external dimensions.

Customisational offering

Promoting our customisation offering with CNC machined closed-cell foam to excavate pockets and cavities to exactly match the equipment that needs to be protected. Working with Imperial College London, we developed a revolutionary scanning system that allows customers to scan their object they wish to protect at their own location, using simple freely available equipment. Once the data is received, we can then machine foam to form the basis of the AirShip case.

Accredited to MIL-STD and IP66

A unique feature of AirShip is the male/female weatherproof seal between base and lid which is fully accredited climatic seal to IP66. This eliminates the need for additional profiles and a gasket. The pockets and weatherproof seal have been precisely machined, the lightweight block is anchored into the hardwearing, abrasion-resistant, waterproof, texturised nylon fabric outer.

Airship has an inner polyester coating, is very user friendly, easily cleanable, has no hard corners or edges and is comfortable to handle and it incorporates handles, webbing strap pulldowns and weatherproof industrial zips. We have put the product through a rigorous testing process against the requirements of the world standard US MIL-STD -810G. These tests match the testing carried out on our heavy-duty rotational moulded cases and the AirShip range has passed and been certified.

AirShip case study

Taking Airship to market has been helped by specific case studies describing how the product has performed in the field when Airship was the only solution to the customer’s problem.

We are demonstrating that the case technology is suitable for protecting high-value items. It is a unique offering in the marketplace where no other solution can offer comparable performance with such lightweight.
