Customised Ruggedised Cabinets

We are all now familiar with the term “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, but chemical weapons were employed over 100 years ago, and the UK set up the first Chemical Warfare School in 1926. The modern term for these weapons is now abbreviated to CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) and personal protection apparel for military and civilian personnel is commonly used, and with that comes the need for decontamination; anytime, anywhere.

The need to decontaminate equipment, clothing, helmets and the like, is an application taking place around the world – and the specialist decontamination apparatus required needs to be ruggedised and deployable.

For more than 20 years, CP Cases have been manufacturing these highly customised ruggedised cabinets and containers to house this specialist testing equipment, and have earlier this year completed another contract for these complex build products. When decontamination is carried out in a fixed location, like a laboratory or workshop (right), space and portability are of no consequence. When however CBRN cleaning is carried out in the field, or on the front line, then the kit has to be organised to take up minimum space, to be easily deployed, and be “contained, ready for use” in a secure and ruggedised cabinet that protects the equipment from climatic and physical effects during transit.

Using hi-tensile 2mm aluminium sheet, with a cold rolled swaged rigidised pattern, gives the material a 25% advantage in strength to weight ratio, but allows good forming and welding properties. The body of the cabinet is laser cut, punched, folded and seam welded along all joints, checked for dimensional accuracy before applying a hard oven baked polyester powder surface coating over an etched and primed under coat. Once the painted abrasive-resistant outer cabinet is completed, the complex internal structure is built to exacting specifications. Anchor points, and a variety of internal nutserts and the like are positioned to accurately line up with equipment specs, allowing the client to populate and test the completed mobile station in readiness for field use.

Since 1971, CP Cases are specialists in the design and manufacture of all types of rugged containers, cabinets, transport cases and 19” electronic enclosures. Products built for use in the field, in transit and long-term storage, for extreme climates, and protected from shock and vibration, CP Cases serves both military and commercial customers in over 45 countries year after year.
